We often heard of the many kinds of Management and the many disciplines they are into. We are familiar with the management of people and the management of organization but we never thought of Knowledge Management or we are just not aware that the thing is called “Knowledge Management.”
Knowledge Management is the process of creating, sharing, using and managing the knowledge and information of an organization. It refers to a multidisciplinary approach to achieving organizational objectives by making the best use of knowledge.
Will my organization benefit from Knowledge Management? No doubt, it will! The main thrust of the Local Government Unit is to offer the best service to its constituent by implementing programs and projects that will uplift the lives of every Passinhon. The Local Government is composed of many departments that has different and unique functions, nevertheless these departments are interrelated and has to work for one vision and mission! In order for them to strategically perform, they need to gather data from the different department, analyse, process and deliver results. The treasury department needs data from the budget and accounting office and vice versa, in the same way the rest of the departments shares data with one another for one purpose. Knowledge Management is not just sharing data, but as the word connotes, it is a management, a responsible gathering and sharing of data.
The biggest barriers in the implementation of Knowledge Management are of course the insufficient knowledge on what and how Knowledge Management is all about! It is a fact that LGU’s are politics driven and our work may oftentimes influenced by so much of it. Another is we forget that we belong to the same organization with one purpose, ours is competition!
“Knowledge is power but knowledge sharing is empowerment.” Knowledge is power, but it will be more powerful if imparted and shared! What is the use of knowledge, if it is limited to individual or a certain group of people? Empowering people is giving them the opportunity to realize their full potentials! Knowledge alone will not make the organization successful but rather, empower your people and they will work harder for the organization. Knowledge sharing will make the world go round and round and round…Knowledge sharing will ultimately hit our target!
